The North Carolina Blue Crab Industry filed a petition for import relief with the US International Trade Commission under section 201 of the Trade Act of 1974. They were asking the government to impose temporary import restrictions to prevent a total collapse of the industry.
It was denied by a 4 to 2 vote by the commission on July 11, 2000.
