It was a beautiful day to be on the water Saturday.  After a tough week at work, getting a roof repaired and fighting a dang sinus infection is was a late start.   The goal was to hit bait pods with popping corks on the lower Neuse while heading for a few banks and points that had produced trout back in Aug.  Water temps are still warm at 78 degrees.  Sun was high and bright with a very slight variable wind NW to NE and occasionally South.  It turned into a 73-mile voyage that produced no drum on the way out, a couple of 14-17" puppy drum, two flounder, three trout and five nice blues under the popping cork on the return- biggest trout and blue were 18".  No love from the big drum on the corks- that seems to be an early morning bite.  It was a great day.   I've never checked my gas consumption...unbelievable...16 gallons of fuel to run 73-miles most of that at 30mph with four adults, a 100-pound lab and all the stuff two women and two ocd trout fishermen can pack.  Wow!  Much fun- Oct will be great!
